Best (and Worst) Pick-up Line in Kansas City
We wanted to know what people think about cheesy pick-up lines? Are there any good ones out there? We sent comedian Brad Meehan out on the streets to ask people, what is the best, or worst, pick-up line?

No Bald Jokes!
I want to say 'thank you' to comedians Sean Brennan, Jeff Vaughn, and Justin Leon for volunteering to perform with me at the Shave 2 Save "No Bald Jokes" Comedy Fundraiser. Over $3000 was raised in support of Hope Lodge, a home-away-from home for cancer patients and their families when they are away receiving treatment. This standing-room only event was special to me since I lost my mom to Cancer when I was only 9-months old. What a great night.
A special thanks goes out to this year's Shavee's: Blake Cadwell, Tammy Buckner, and Melissa Green. You are so inspiring to me!
Facing cancer is hard. Having to travel out of town for treatment can
make it even harder. Yet the American Cancer Society has a place where
cancer patients and their caregivers can find help and hope when home is
far away - an American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.
Each Hope Lodge offers cancer patients and their caregivers a free, temporary place to stay when their best hope for effective treatment may be in another city. Not having to worry about where to stay or how to pay for lodging allows guests to focus on getting well. Hope Lodge provides a nurturing, home-like environment where guests can retreat to private rooms or connect with others. Every Hope Lodge also offers a variety of resources and information about cancer and how best to fight the disease.
Learn more about Hope Lodge here!

Variety Children's Charity
Please take a look at this wonderful charity. I will be performing at their 2013 Variety Show.
Everyone wants to have the opportunity to live out his or her dreams. For some, this means singing, dancing or performing on stage, but for kids who have physical and mental disabilities, this can be a challenge.
Variety, The Children’s Charity of Greater Kansas City helps make dreams come true for these children by giving them the ultimate gift: MOBILITY. This gift allows them to live their lives with freedom and independence.
http://varietyshowkc.org/variety-star-search/
Why Variety is Special to Brad: Even though Brad is now a two-time Emmy-nominated comedian, he’s never forgotten his roots. He has always given back to Kansas City, the town that made him famous. Now, his dream is to assist younger comics by being their mentor. Through his passion for helping kids, Brad is very excited to support Variety and the wonderful families we serve.

Split the Check!
It's finally here! Here is Split the Check starring Brad Meehan, Eric McGrane, Aaron Lau, Michelle Davison, Alan Loman, and Jason Miller. Written by Brad Meehan and Patrick Rea.
Split the Check from Patrick Rea on Vimeo.
Here's a great review from Forced Viewing:
Some friendships can’t even make it through dinner.
I am floored with this short. It is so absurd and yet somehow keeps it almost reality based. Yes the end scene is slapstick heaven, and yet if you put it in the context of how people would behave in that situation it isn’t too far off base. For all intents and purposes that scene along with the accompanying score should absolutely make me hate it. It’s no secret that my funny bone is broken (or at the very least kind of wonky) and this is exactly the kind of humor that doesn’t normally appeal to me. So what sort of devil contract have you signed Mr. Rea?!
Writer/director Patrick Rea has a firm grip on how to tell stories that are at the same time outrageous and accessible. He takes natural situations and zooms in on the unbelievable in a way that makes you think that yeah, in an alternate reality this could happen. At the very least these could be eerie representations of people’s daydreams.
The acting is outstanding across the board – everyone hams it up just enough to emphasize the silliness without making me cringe. The waiter stands out because of course we’ve encountered shitballs like him at least once. They all transition from a straight scene to slapstick smoothly.
Add in the gorgeous professional quality cinematography and a score that works on every level and we are in the presence of genius. Rea has an eye for the mundane that shouldn’t matter and yet it seems that he is some sort of mathematical whiz. Each scene is calculated to perfection – even tiny things like having to see this guy use his fingers. Two different presentations – one where you don’t notice because it’s from the perspective of everyone else who doesn’t give a damn, and the second from the perspective of his irritated wife. The close up feels exactly like what his wife is thinking. I should know – that is a pet peeve of mine that I could write about for hours. (Give me evisceration, give me gore – but please for the love of god I can’t handle dirty hands!)
Patrick Rea is a force to be reckoned with, Hollywood! He knows how to please the viewer without throwing generic crap in their faces. He takes the generic and molds it into an interesting experience that you can connect with, no matter how silly. I hope he keeps these coming, because I can’t get enough of them.

Some friendships can’t even make it through dinner.
* * *
Three couples are having dinner at what seems to be a fancy
restaurant. Snarky comments roll by but it seems fine. Then the real
horror happens: They have to pay. The douche nozzle of a waiter
can’t/won’t split the check for them! Well this is the last straw
indeed. How can this issue be resolved?I am floored with this short. It is so absurd and yet somehow keeps it almost reality based. Big Dumb Fun Show
Spent some time on the Big Dumb Fun Show with Venkman and Aaron Gnirk. Also in the studio was Ross McGinnis and friend/blogger-extraordinaire Tony's Kansas City.
Here's a link to a nice write-up by Tony on his blog:
http://www.tonyskansascity.com/2012/08/the-big-dumb-fun-show-brad-meehan.html
You probably recognize him from local car commercials or from his many
performances around this town. Brad is still funnier than ever, his
jokes are even sharper nowadays and what we find interesting is that
he's keeping his commitment against working blue despite recent trends
in the comedy game. Real Talk: Brad Meehan is one of the funniest guys
in Kansas City that even more people need to see or follow via social media.

Get Off My Porch on FEARnet!
The Emmy-Award winning "Get Off My Porch", starring Brad Meehan and Disney Channel's Katherine McNamara is coming to your TV on FEARnet!
FEARnet Review:
FEARnet Review:
Wonderfully acted with a wicked sense of humor, GET OFF MY PORCH is a cautionary tale to be weary of the cute and the adorable. A man, home alone, is terrorized by persistent girl scouts selling ‘delicious’ cookies.
That's Old School...
Ariana: Dad, whenever you say, "Check this out. This is Old School" I prepare myself to lose the next few minutes of my life. Apparently we went to different 'Old Schools'.

Me: If you saw it, why didn't you pick it up?

Me: So there's a list of jobs?
Her: Yep. And it's not on my list.
Me: Go get me the list.
Her: That's not my job either.
